Poland: Pieter Weening in first GroupThe sixth stage from the Tour of Poland was severely shortened as well. Only 120 out of 200 kilometers remained for the riders. The last two climbs were difficult. Jens Voigt jumped away by himself and finished this stunt as well. Behind him was a group of about twenty riders, in which Pieter Weening from the Rabo ProTeam held out as well.
"The conditions were even worse than in the past few days. Four degrees and really brutal," described team manager Erik Breukink the one-but-last stage. The final forty kilometers were particularly difficult. Seven riders attempted an escape, but that group never got away. Only the Germans Tony Martin and Jens Voigt managed to stay ahead. Voigt rode away by himself, won, and took the lead in the general classification.
"The pack was completely torn apart, especially because of all the rain," said Breukink. Pieter Weening was with the first group of 25 riders. The other Rabo riders finished in the second group. "They really suffered. Bauke Mollema suffers especially from the cold. He has to become a little stronger to handle these kinds of course," told Breukink. Koos Moerenhout decided to drop out after seventy kilometers. "He really suffered yesterday as well and could not handle it. He actually really could not do it anymore."
The last stage will be ridden in the wet Poland tomorrow. "A kind of hilly stage, but an escape might succeed," is Breukink's opinion. "The guys who can do it will be given all the room they need. If not we still have Brown for the sprint."
